Specification Driven Development (SDD): The future of AI-assisted coding, or the revenge of Waterfall?

With AI coding agents becoming ever more powerful, Specification Driven Development (SDD) is emerging as a way to provide direction and control. Major software companies are promoting SDD as the next step in software — Microsoft released Spec Kit, Amazon released Kiro, and many smaller players are emerging with SDD tools. Will SDD actually improve our performance, or is this just another attempt to replace developers? Is it an evolution of Specification by Example and BDD, or the revenge of Waterfall project management? This talk looks into the current state of SDD and perspectives for the future.

👤 About the Speaker

Gojko brings a unique perspective to this topic, having pioneered many of the collaborative specification practices that laid the groundwork for today's SDD tools. His work on Specification by Example and Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD) has influenced how teams communicate requirements and build software for over a decade.

As the founder of Narakeet and a partner at Neuri Consulting LLP, Gojko continues to explore the intersection of AI, automation, and software development practices. His pragmatic approach to emerging technologies makes him the ideal speaker to examine whether SDD represents genuine innovation or simply old methodologies in new packaging.
